Day North Island Tour
Day
1 - Auckland
Arrive Auckland. Your
vehicle will be at the airport ready and waiting. Auckland
is home of the America's Cup, the world's most elite yachting
competition and is also the world's oldest sporting trophy.
Relax at one of the bars, café's or restaurants on the waterfront
in the America's Cup Village.
Day 2 - Bay
of Islands
This morning you will head north to the beautiful Bay of Islands.
The natural beauty of
the Bay of Islands has to be seen to be believed. It's aquatic
playground lavishly furnished with 144 islands and a myriad
of secluded beaches. This afternoon's golfing session will
be at the scenic Waitangi Golf Club which has spectacular
water views from many holes.
Day 3- Kauri Cliffs Resort, Bay of Islands 
A one-hour trip north brings you to the new and beautiful
Kauri Cliffs Resort. Golf Digest voted Kauri Cliffs the Best
New International Golf Course of 2001 and has recently been
named the 49th best golf course in the world by Golf Magazine.
Bear in mind that there are only five other courses in the
world built after 1936 that made the top 50. This magnificent
championship golf course provides a total of 15 holes with
views of the Pacific Ocean and the spectacular Bay of Islands.
Six of these holes are played alongside cliffs that plunge
into the sea. After golf you may like to stay in the Kauri
Cliffs area. Matauri Bay with its golden sandy beach looking
out to the Cavalli Islands is the final resting place of the
ill-fated Greenpeace flagship, the Rainbow Warrior, which
has become home for reef fishes, and is known worldwide as
a spectacular diving spot. Horse trails, safe swimming, heritage
trails, jet ski hire and tours to the Cavalli islands are
available. Another seaside delight near Kauri Cliffs is Tauranga
Bay with its beautiful sandy beach, famous for superb diving
and fishing. Boat charters are available.
Day 4 - Gulf Harbour
This
morning you will head to the Gulf Harbour Resort, home of
the 1998 World Cup of Golf. This course will probably be one
of the most challenging
you will play. The designer, Robert Trent Jones II likens
this layout to the illustrious Pebble Beach in California.
Day
5- Rotorua
Today you will travel
further south through Auckland and on to the amazing geo thermal
wonderland of Rotorua. This afternoon is free to explore some
of the great sightseeing options.
You can choose
from a variety of activities ranging from sightseeing at the
Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve, the Maori Arts & Crafts
Institute, relaxing in a thermal spa pool, kayaking, 4WD Bush
Safari or White Water Rafting.
Day 6 - Rotorua
This morning's round
of golf is at the Rotorua Golf Club, locally known as Arikikapakapaka.
Some of the hazards are hot pools of mud that bubble and gurgle
while you play. The re-modelled firm greens make the course
a great golfing challenge.
Day 7 - Wairakei
International Golf Club
A
one hour drive to Taupo will take you to the Wairakei International
Golf Course for today's round. Rated in the top 20 Golf courses
in the world outside the US by Golf Digest, Wairakei is a
favorite on every tour.
Day 8 - Taupo
Feel free to look
around beautiful Lake Taupo this morning. Fishing and cruising
on the lake are popular options. A leisurely stroll along
the waterfront taking in the fresh air will re-charge any
batteries. This afternoon you head back North to Auckland
Day 9 - Auckland
Today's
round of golf in Auckland will be at the Formosa Country Club.
This course was designed by Bob Charles and is an attractive
coastal course with long and challenging holes amid a tropical
background. This afternoon is free time. You might like to
take a trip on a harbour cruise, enjoy some sailing, kayaking,
windsurfing or head along to Kelly Tarltons Underwater World.
Day 10 - Auckland
Depending on your
departure time there may be time for some last minute shopping.
You will transfer to the Airport if you are flying home today.
